BOYS BKB: GLADWIN 88, STANDISH 68
Having two 30-point scorers in a game is fairly rare.
But this is a unique season for Gladwin.
The Flying G’s added to their storied campaign, rolling to an 88-68 victory over Standish-Sterling to clinch the outright Jack Pine Conference-1 championship. Jacob Pahl went wild for 37 points in the win and was joined in the 30-point realm by teammate Brody Verellen with 31.
“We were able to put on quite a show this evening with our highest scoring game of the season,” Gladwin coach Mike Verellen said. “Brody and Jacob came up really big for us, especially with Ben (Verellen) missing large stretches of the game with a likely broken nose.”
Gladwin (17-1, 13-1) led 43-35 at the half then posted a 26-point third quarter en route to its 17th consecutive victory.
Karter Fegan scored 26 points for Standish-Sterling (9-9, 7-6) while Vance Stokoszynski tallied 13 and Landon Nixon 12.

GIRLS BKB: STANDISH 66, GLADWIN 41
Don’t wait for Standish-Sterling to blink.
The Panthers are completely locked-in and fully focused.
Continuing an incredible season of success, Standish-Sterling toppled Gladwin 66-41 to clinch the Jack Pine Conference-1 title in outright fashion. While three league games remain, the Panthers already secured their spot in the JPC’s overall title game Feb. 24.
Fronted by four seniors who all made their varsity debut as freshmen – Jensyn Machala, Adi Walker, Ava Walker and Keeley Peace – Standish-Sterling (15-1, 13-0) has refused to bat an eye in conference play.
“Our four seniors are really staring to come into their own,” Standish coach Denny Wendel said. “And we’re getting great support from a bunch of different girls, which is awesome.”
All four seniors scored in double figures in the win over Gladwin. Machala led with 17 points while Adi Walker notched 16, Peace 15 and Ava Walker 10. The Panthers led 24-4 after one quarter in the dominating performance.

GIRLS BKB: STANDISH 66, PINCONNING 22
Standish-Sterling clinched at least a share of the Jack Pine Conference-1 crown with a 66-22 victory over Pinconning in their neighboring rivalry.
The Panthers (14-1, 12-0) saw Jensyn Machala knock down six 3-pointers in a 20-point performance that has them steaming toward the JPC overall title game.

BOYS BKB: PINCONNING 54, STANDISH 47
If Pinconning wanted to bring home a special victory on a special night, it was going to take something extraordinary.
And extraordinary it was.
The Spartans delivered a head-spinning fourth quarter, turning a nine-point deficit into a 54-47 victory over longtime archrival Standish-Sterling. It marked Pinconning’s first homecourt win over the Panthers since 2008, putting a fitting spin on Senior Night.
“It was Senior Night and the boys really wanted to get a win on an old rival,” Pinconning coach Jason Donahue said. “It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but the team dug deep late in the game.”
After honoring seniors Danny Dubay, Cole Dzurka, Jaxon Hill, Ryan Kowalczyk and Marcus Pickett, the Spartans went to work against a team that has had its number.
Standish-Sterling (9-8, 7-5) got 20 points from Karter Fegan and 12 from Landon Nixon and built a 39-30 lead through three quarters.
But Pinconning (12-6, 8-5) had something unique in store for Quarter 4. Six different players hit a bucket, including key 3-pointers from Jaxon Hill and Sean Donahue, and Dayne Ivey scored nine of his game-high 25 points in the decisive final frame to spin the outcome.
The Spartans finished on a 24-8 tear, getting a measure of payback from last season’s loss to Standish-Sterling in the Jack Pine Conference overall championship game.
Ryan Kowalczyk scored 12 points with eight rebounds in the win while Sean Donahue tallied nine points. Ivey added nine rebounds in his big night.

GIRLS BKB: STANDISH 48, BULLOCK CREEK 25
Standish-Sterling suspected this was going to be a big year.
Even three years ago.
When the Panthers gave Adi Walker, Ava Walker, Jensyn Machala and Keeley Peace instant varsity callups as freshmen, they couldn’t help but think what could happen when they were seniors.
Flash forward to 2026 and Standish-Sterling is 11-1 after a 48-25 victory over Midland Bullock Creek, building a two-game lead atop the Jack Pine Conference-1 standings.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I had high expectations,” Standish coach Denny Wendel said. “It’s been fun seeing (the seniors) guide our team and especially mentoring our young players.”
Standish-Sterling (11-1, 10-0) is steaming toward its first league championship since 2021 after taking care of business against Bullock Creek. The Panthers powered to a 25-11 lead by halftime then rattled off a 21-4 third-quarter spree.
