Thank you Karen Tremble Insurance Agency-Farm Bureau for sponsoring this event and supporting this cause!
The SSC Coaches vs Cancer games were a huge success! We are blessed with an amazingly generous community! Plus, we had the generous support of our Gladwin neighbors who joined us in raising more than $4,500 at the Karen Tremble Agency- Farm Bureau Insurance sponsored basketball games!
A special thank you to M Crash Group for your $2,500 donation! Just simply amazing💖! Additionally, we thank the SSC Athletic Department and coaches for being so accommodating and helpful at every turn.
Finally, a great amount of appreciation to our SSC Girls & Boys Varsity Basketball Teams for decorating, collecting donations, and playing for those fighting a battle with cancer.

SOCCER: STANDISH ENDS WITH EPIC GAME
Standish-Sterling got the final-minute heroics it needed.
Only to see the game go on for another hour.
After dramatically forcing overtime in the last 60 seconds of regulation, the Panthers played Manistee dead even through overtime, double overtime, penalty-kick shootout and six rounds of sudden death.
Manistee finally got the nod in Round 7, scoring the game-winner for a monumental 4-3 victory in the Division 3 boys soccer regional semifinal at Clare.
“Until you have been in a PK shootout, it is hard to understand how stressful they are,” Standish coach Doug Dahn said. “We were as well-prepared for PKs as possible and did well. Manistee hit some really great shots and their goalie made a really big save.”
That saved ended an epic battle with the season in the balance, sending Manistee into the regional final to face Fremont at 6 p.m. Friday. It ended a historic season for Standish-Sterling (14-5), which won the program’s first Jack Pine Conference title and first district championship.
“All in all, I am so proud to be the coach of this group and I am so happy for them and all they were able to accomplish,” Dahn said. “It has been an amazing run.”
After a weather delay and playing the first 10 minutes through hail, Standish-Sterling went to work on overcoming a 2-0 deficit. The Panthers broke through with just 15 minutes to play when Landon Nixon volleyed home a corner kick from Carson Koin. With about a minute remaining, Koin sent another corner kick to Ben Briggs, who buried the equalizer, kicking off a whirlwind overtime.
After neither team scored in the first 10 minutes, Standish got a goal from Arthur Vieira Carvahlho on a Koin assist before Manistee answered with a long range shot to send the game into PK shootout.
Down 4-3 entering the final round, the Panthers got a must-make goal from Ian Emans and a must-stop save from Branton Bartlett to force sudden death. Seven kicks later, Standish had its first miss and Manistee capitalized for the victory.
