Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers Walk-Off In Nail-Biter Against North Branch

It came down to the wire on Saturday at North Branch High School, as Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 9-8, over North Branch. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the ninth when Keeley Peace singled, scoring one run.

Peace collected three hits in five at bats in the win. Peace hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning, tripled in the first inning, and singled in the ninth inning.

Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers opened the scoring in the first after Julia Mattson drew a walk, scoring one run.

North Branch jumped into the lead in the top of the second when #4 hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and #5 singled, scoring two runs.

Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers took the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the second thanks to three walks.

North Branch took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fifth thanks to singles by #31, and #18.

Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Peace homered to center field, scoring two runs, to give Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers the lead, 6-5.

#3 singled down the right field line, which helped North Branch tie the game at six in the top of the seventh.

North Branch took the lead in the top of the eighth. #11 singled, scoring two runs, to give North Branch the upper hand, 8-6.

Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a double by Jaylynn Yenna, and a single by Mattson.

Madison Burke earned the win for Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers. The hurler surrendered four hits and three runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two. #18 took the loss for North Branch. The hurler went three and one-third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking one. Mattson began the game for Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers. The right-handed pitcher gave up 10 hits and five runs over five innings, striking out one and walking four. #5 began the game for North Branch. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and four runs over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking five. Yenna appeared in relief for Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers.

Anna Briggs collected two hits for Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers in five at bats. Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers had patience at the plate, collecting 10 walks for the game. Tyla Tunney and Emma Proctor led the team with two bases on balls each. Standish-Sterling Varsity Panthers turned one double play in the game.

North Branch piled up 14 hits in the game.
